On July 2, Ming Chi University of Technology received the Exemplary University Award from Vision Magazine in the 2024 Taiwan Best University Rankings. Among the 20 exemplary universities this year, the three Formosa Plastics Group universities made the list simultaneously. Ming Chi University of Technology was honored in the Technical and Vocational category, becoming the only private university to receive this distinction. Additionally, it climbed to 9th place among comprehensive universities (such as National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Chiao Tung University), marking the largest improvement among the top 30 comprehensive universities and the only private university in the top 10.
This year's Vision Magazine Taiwan Best University Rankings evaluated universities based on six major criteria. Ming Chi University of Technology ranked in the top 30 comprehensive universities in every category, notably securing first place in financial strength. This achievement reflects the long-term support of Formosa Plastics Group for quality education. Despite being a small university with fewer than 5,000 students and only 206 faculty members, its registration rate and average student funds utilization are the highest in Taiwan, demonstrating its competitive edge compared to national universities.
President Liu Zu-Hua emphasized in an interview that, with strong support from the board of directors, Ming Chi University of Technology established ten university-level research centers over the past decade, including those focused on artificial intelligence, smart vehicles, smart healthcare, organic electronics, green energy, biochemical engineering, plasma thin film technology, and environmental sustainability. Each center has received over 100 million NTD in funding and is closely connected to the frontline of industry, ensuring seamless integration of industry issues, social resources, and academic research, resulting in mutually beneficial outcomes. This has also led to excellent performance in paper publications and patent filings. President Liu was also featured on the 2024 Vision Magazine Taiwan Best University Rankings Outstanding Performance Honor Roll.
Ming Chi University of Technology positions itself as an industry-academia research and development-focused technology university, effectively integrating corporate resources and nurturing talent aligned with industry needs. This not only creates employment advantages for graduates but also helps solve talent shortages for companies, gradually showcasing its operational features and receiving societal recognition. It is expected to have a significant impact and contribution to Taiwan's technical and vocational education.
